Media language and representation

In this task I am going to analyse how combinations of media language is used to create meaning and construct representation that address and appeal to an intended audience.

Song 1: Written in the stars by Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner

The use of the long shots/ medium shots conveys the storyline that the singer is singing about. It shows how the young boy portraying Tinie Tempah struggles with bullying and his mother being abused to get money. The use of the neutral colours in the video creates a realistic setting throughout the music video and bring the main character to life.

By shooting scenes of Tinie Tempah singing on the roof, the audience is lead to believe that he is shouting and wants his voice to be heard. This add further emphasise to the pianist playing in an empty room as it shows that he trapped in a room and the music is the only thing that he has. This portrays the young boy as music is the only thing that he has too.

Song 2: Superheroes by The Script 

Camera work: 

- switch between the band and the story(single dad working hard trying to provide for his child)

- mixture of closeups and mid shots

- establishing shot at the beginning shows the road and the traffic  and the poverty

Editing :

- high key lighting

- starts during the day (shows that difference between the working single dad and the band who don't have to hide the type of job that they have and have all they equipment set-up for them.) - end up being at the same concert  

Soundtrack :

- Upbeat soundtrack - important message - uplifting

- ends the song with a gentle melody to send an impact to the audience

Mise - en -scene:

- uses both narrative and performance style video

- switches between the band and the hardworking rubbish collector/ business man. Emphasises the difference between the band wearing clean, fancy clothes and the father's dirty, torn clothes doing hard labour

I have chosen Childline as I want to do a similar website.

- slide show of key topics such as gay pride and stress relievers

- simple, easy to understand language

Music video : I will use a more narrative style like Written in the stars but use a similar storyline like in Superheroes
